All The Cool Kids Are Doing It
I was looking to get a suppressor for my SCAR, or at least explore what is needed to do so, and found the following within Michigan's firearm laws (of course, this was released BEFORE it was legal to own a suppressor):
Sec. 224. (1) A person shall not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, or possess any of the following:
(a) A machine gun or firearm that shoots or is designed to shoot automatically more than 1 shot without
manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.
(b) A muffler or silencer.
(c) A bomb or bombshell.
(d) A blackjack, slungshot, billy, metallic knuckles, sand club, sand bag, or bludgeon.
And I'm cutting it off there. Because I need to know what all this cool shit is. Blackjack? Sand club? What the fuck is that? I don't know, but I WANT IT.

Heavy Machining - By Bay Cast Technologies
If a 10 foot diameter part is spinning at 19 RPM and you're cutting the outside edge, then you're cutting about 120 linear inches of metal per second. Coupled with the right feed rate and depth of cut, you've got these bullets rocketing off the part. The cross-section of the chip is approximately 1/2" x 3/16"... so we cut about 1.5 lb per second. Holy shit.
A 1/2" x 1/2" notch get cut off the entire rim of a 10' diameter part in about 5 seconds. We had to shut it down because it was too dangerous.... lol.

Skyrim: First Impressions?
That intro was fucking great. I let the dragon kill me so I could play it again. An execution is way better than the Census and Excise Office or prison. They really fixed faces this time, not every character looks grotesque anymore.
This graphics card is excellent, a GTX 560 Ti. I turned every god damned setting to ultra and it powers through a forest without a noticeable drop in the framerate.
Steam fucking blows. I pop in the disc and Steam comes up and proceeds to attempt to download all 5 and some odd gigabytes of the game at 40 kb/s. Luckily I managed to find a workaround 5 minutes into the 23 day download estimate. Then it had to download 200 MB patch? right after install. Steam fucking blows.

I completely forgot about this game until yesterday. I just ordered a new graphics card and 4GB more memory along with a preorder. Are you guys going PC or 360 for this one?

PanzerBlitz
Lets get this blog active again. If no one responds I swear to god I'll spam this blog with Indian pop song music videos again.
I found this game in an antique store. It's a 2-player World War 2 German vs. Russian tactical combat game combining the best parts of Risk and Catan. I haven't played it yet, but it looks really complicated and frustrating therefore frackin awesome.
It has range, movement, defense, and attack ratings for 67 different tanks, tank destroyers, armored transports, artillery, mobile artillery, and infantry units for Russian and German forces.
Andy, I know you'll want to play and I know for which side. Even your SS helm won't save you from my Russian winter multiplier!

Duncan's Gets a Beating
Last but not least... me. If you look close, you can see my fucking safety glasses on my head. Put an extra pair on after I "couldn't find them."
We also blew the doors off of the 50 yard tunnel. I have pictures, but didn't actually catch it on video. I left my damn cord at work today when I uploaded the videos, so I'll have to post the pictures later.

Alyouminium Catan board
I kept thinking about my idea for an aluminum Catan board held together by magnets. It would be expensive and time consuming to make, but the end result would be a kickass, over-engineered, rock solid catanian continent.
I would use 1/4" aluminum plate with two 1/8" dia by 1/16" thk neodymium disc magnets per edge. If there are 12 magnets per hex and 30 hexes in the 5-6 player board, then I would need 360 magnets. You can buy 500 of these here (extras for seafarers hexes) for $40. Two pairs of magnets holding two hexes together would generate up to 0.9 Lb of force.
Each hex would be 3 inches across the flats, not 79 mm like the actual game. They would need 12 9/64" dia by 7/64" deep holes. If you set up a vice in a drill press so you could just drop in a hex without having to worry about positioning I think you get drill all the holes in a couple of hours. The magnets would be epoxied in the holes.
I haven't decided what to do for the decals. Acid etching would bee cool, but difficult. Stickers would look cheap and take away from the work already put into the materials.

Light Fifty My Ass
This Saturday, Andy and I will come across a unique opportunity. It's not too often you get a chance to go to a shooting range and blast some shit with an M82A1. Even less often do you get a chance to do so with your boss (or your friend's boss). What you're seeing in the picture above is actually my boss's brother... glad I got the picture while he had a bullet in his mouth lol. For some reason, I didn't think you'd believe the sheer size of the bullet or the magazine unless I actually posted pictures... so here you go.
It should also be noted that you can probably only fit two magazines into a standard sized ammo box..... if that. I suppose I'll post some action shots/videos this weekend. Should be epic.

Kvelertak
This Norwegian metal band Kvelertak (Stranglehold) released their debut record last year and it's some good shit. This song, Mjod, is about mead and related Norse mythology. The whole album is fanfuckingtastic.
Nå ska me ta ein liten sang Den dreie seg om alkohol Me har ingen sånne tekstar Me vil gjerna ha litt spekter Suttung fulgte hakk i hel Odin kicka assen hans Suttung leve ei mer lenger Me har all den mjød me treng Full av all dis galskap Ska fyra opp ein liten tjall Setta på litt svartmetall Sammen med min beste venn Odin ga oss Suttung sitt mjød Det magiske mjød Det daglige brød Odin ga oss Suttung sitt mjød Det magiske mjød Det e bedre enn øl Nattens sønner at og lengter Så ska me pula Odins enka Mens me råe riff ska sjenka Svarte rever dekk attens Sjå Kvelertaks bestilens Odin ga oss Suttung sitt mjød Det magiske mjød Det daglige brød Odin ga oss Suttung sitt mjød Det magiske mjød Det e bedre enn øl | Now we're gonna sing a little song It's about alcohol We don't have any lyrics like that We want some spectrum Suttung followed close by Odin kicked his ass Suttung is not alive anymore We have all the mead we want Full of all this madness Going to light up a joint Put on some black metal And enjoy it with my best friend Odin gave us Suttung's mead The magical mead Our daily bread Odin gave us Suttung's mead The magical mead It's better than beer Night sons that and longs So were going to fuck Odin's widow While giving you awesome riffs Black foxes deck eighteen (?) See Kvelertak's order Odin gave us Suttung's mead The magic of mead The daily bread Odin gave us Suttung's mead The magical mead It's better than beer |
